What are these various schools of Yoga and kinds of Yoga classes- Hatha, Ashtanga etc.?

We get this a lot and have done an entire blog post on it. Go on and read away here.

Which class should I start with?

If you have never done yoga before we have a beginners’ foundation course which aims to familiarise students with foundational alignment techniques & concepts. It is better to start with the course and you can go to the all levels classes after.

If you have already been introduced to yoga before you can go to any all levels class.

As an intermediate practitioner is an all levels class to easy and as a beginner is it ok to attend?

Asanas for all levels are essentially the same & the intensity of the class is determined by the personal pace of the student, the depth of the posture that he can access and alignment with breath. Therefore the same can be moderate or challenging for students basis their progress. Hands on adjustments and modifications with yoga props are provided for everyone to adjust according to their abilities & hence the classes are appropriate for all levels.

How many times a week would you recommend?

Ideally 2 or 3 times a week (that is how we have designed our packages). The most important is to be regular in your practice. Be realistic in understanding the space you can create for your practice and stick to it with discipline. Remember the goal is to enjoy the classes and cultivate the habit meaningfully. If you are not a morning person for example, come for the evening classes- make a start!

What is the construct of the class?

All our teachers uphold the practice of yoga as an all encompassing practice including breathwork, meditation, alignment & right posture. Our classes are a combination of pranayama, dhyana, asana & chants & each class is 75 minutes long.

I am not flexible, can I do yoga?

Everybody can do yoga. With consistent practice you will become more flexible. It is not an issue at all. Remember not to compete with the others on the mat, or even with yourself. Yoga is not a competition. Enjoy and relax! You will see the progress.

Will I lose weight with yoga?

Yoga is definitely going to help you as it will tone your muscles, help you to reduce fat, lengthen the spine & the body, detoxify your digestive system and rebalance your hormones. Those results will be seen after few weeks of regular practice. If your main goal is to lose weight, you should add a cardio workout in your weekly program and check your diet to make sure you have a holistic healthy lifestyle.

But we promise you- you will definitely lose a lot of mental baggage making you tonnes lighter!!

Should I eat or drink before class?
Hydrate well both before and after class. It is generally recommended to have a light meal at least 2 hours prior to class, if possible. If food is in order before yoga, try a healthy smoothie or a snack from our delightful café a level up!

What should I bring to class?
An open-mind J, bring water and a mat (a yoga towel can be helpful if you sweat a lot or have a slippery mat).

Mats are available to rent for INR 100/class.

What is the difference between a class and a workshop?
A class occurs at the same time and day every week. Students are welcome to drop in or attend regularly.  Sign up for classes. A workshop is a special class or event that has a specific focus to support our students’ progression in their practice. To know more details about workshops go.
